The Tesla Roadster is an all-electric sports car produced by the electric car firm Tesla Motors. The Roadster is the only highway-capable electric automobile for sale as of early 2010; all other highway-capable EVs are prototypes or evaluation series from automakers that are trying to determine whether to go forward with an electric vehicle program. The Roadster has a base price of US$109,000 and qualifies for a $7,500 US federal tax credit as well as tax credits and incentives in numerous states. The Roadster qualifies for numerous incentives throughout Europe and gets 100 percent tax waivers in several countries.

The Lumeneo SMERA is an ultra-small Battery electric vehicle (BEV). It is a two-seater which tilts up to 25° in curves. With a length of 2m50 and width of 86 cm, it is something between an electric car and a scooter and includes lithium ion battery pack. It is regulated in Europe as a car (classification M1). Its speed is announced to be of 130 km/h (80 mph) with a range of 150 km (90 miles). It made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.

French railroad company SNCF has invested 1.5 million euros in Lumeneo. The French railway reportedly injected capital into Green Cove Engineering, a provider of carpooling services. Lumeneo is currently available only in Paris France, at a starting price of 24,500 euros (about $33,000 US) after deduction of the 5,000 euros environmental state subsidy. The company's website states that it will be establishing dealers across Europe in 2010.
